Toilet Stoppages

Stoppage issues are also the most common problem do-it-yourselfers will try to remedy with toilets. Plunging, which is usually the first attempt at clearing will typically take care of a "soft" stoppage of excesssive paper and waste. I have rarely used a plunger in my plumbing career to clear a local stoppage in a toilet. I prefer to use a toilet "auger", which is a hand held "snake" that is extremely effective in clearing localized stoppages in toilets if used correctly. They can extend to 4 feet thru the toilet to effectively remove any obsrtuction that is local to the toilet. Of course, if it farther down the line past the toilet, additional measures will be needed that I will discuss at a later date. When purchasing an "auger", the longer the better. Do not buy one under 4 feet of extension. It is better to have the longer one. Trust me.
